Lecture 1: Treating Periodontitis: The Minimally Invasive Way
• Aims
• To understand the pathway of a periodontitis patient based on the current BSP guidelines
• Objectives
• To understand the diagnostic pathway for periodontal diseases
• Understand how an S3 Level guideline recommendation is formulated
• Explore the steps involved in treating periodontitis with minimally invasive approaches and novel concepts underpinning them
• To discuss when to consider referral following initial therapy
Lecture 2: Peri-Implantitis: Tooth vs Titanium
• Aims:
• To explore the latest evidence underpinning the diagnosis and treatment of peri-implant diseases.
• Objectives:
• To understand the most recent 2018 World Workshop Classification of Peri-Implant Diseases
• To understand the main risk factors for developing peri-implantitis
• Consider the various treatment modalities for treating peri-implantitis in line with the S3 Level Guideline and their success rates including surgical and non-surgical therapy
Lecture 3: Periodontitis: Killer of Teeth…or Humans…
• Aim:
• To update on the relationship between Periodontal Health and Diabetes
• Objectives:
• Discuss how diabetes acts as a risk factor for periodontitis
• Explore how periodontal inflammation can elevate risk of diabetes
• Update on the latest guidelines for health professionals linking oral health with diabetic health
• Consider evidence based periodontal treatment protocols for the diabetic patient
Lecture 4: Twisting Torquing and Tissue Grafting: The Perio-Ortho Interface
• Aims:
• To understand the periodontal considerations prior to/during/after orthodontic therapy.
• Objectives:
• Consider the guidelines in relation to periodontal-orthodontic multidisciplinary plans
• Understand when to commence orthodontic therapy and periodontal considerations during orthodontic therapy
• Understand the role of soft tissue grafting in periodontics and alongside an orthodontic treatment plan
About
The Specialist Periodontist
Dr Devan Raindi qualified from the University of Birmingham, receiving the prestigious Carlton Gold Medal for most outstanding student as well as multiple other awards. He has continued to win awards at a postgraduate level, including an award from the British Society of Periodontology. He completed his specialist training at the world-renowned Kings College London graduating to a Masters in Clinical Dentistry with Distinction and is a GDC Registered Specialist in Periodontics.
He is Chair of the Early Career Group of the British Society of Periodontology with a seat on main council.
He currently teaches postgraduate dentists advanced periodontal skills across the UK, having a formal teaching qualification (AFHEA). He is the founder of The Perio Coach®, an educational initiative with a vision to promote excellence in the delivery of periodontal care.
He has been invited to talk at national and international dental conferences, including the conference for the British Society of Periodontology. Dr Raindi has also published extensively in national and international peer-reviewed dental journals including the British Dental Journal and British Medical Journal. He is regularly invited to review articles for the Journal of Clinical Periodontology, Dental Update and British Dental Journal.
