For: Dentists,
The Endo-Restorative Continuum
A continuum is something that changes gradually, or in very slight stages, progressing with elements varying by minute degrees. Our journey will take us through:
- why we have changed how we do endodontics,
- why it will change again,
- what we have changed in our procedures and
- how we have changed it over the course of the years.
Technology in healthcare is progressing at a rapid pace, with expectations from patients and healthcare professionals becoming higher and higher. Endodontics can be feared and loathed in practice, with often a disconnect between patient-centred outcomes and the technical aspects of the treatment.
Jon and Luca are going to take a journey through the endo-resto continuum and shifting the mindset that we may have towards endodontics. Restoratively driven endodontics, work-flow, problem solving and patient management will be some of the topics that we will be dissecting.
Jon and Luca will focus on aspects of treatment applicable to clinical practice, directly improving your work-flow and endodontic outcome.
There will be space for problem solving, with some of the common scenarios that present to your clinic, and how to tackle them in a systematic way.
Jon and Luca are going to speak candidly and honestly about their failures, their experiences in clinical practice, and the conversations had with some of the leading researchers and clinicians in the endodontic world.
We look forward to embarking on the endo-resto journey together, and look forward to seeing you!
Objectives (extended)
The day will be an all-encompassing dive into the restorative and endodontic component of root canal treatment. It will include scientific evidence, clinical protocols, clinical scenarios, materials discussions and an open forum to discuss all topics:
- Access cavities:
- - Explore the biomechanics and pragmatism of accessing teeth,
- - Understand the trends and why there is a shift in this,
- - Know the key structures that need preserving,
- Canal location:
- - Understanding anatomy,
- - Discover the potential of modern imaging,
- - Discover the ‘beam projection’ principle helping canal location,
- Shaping:
- - Discuss the trends of modern materials,
- - Understand the impact of different shapes on canal morphology,
- - Establish a repeatable and clinically relevant protocol for your practice,
- Irrigation:
- - Understand the rationale behind protocols,
- - Explore the aims and techniques of modern irrigation techniques,
- Obturation:
- - Understand trends and the science behind it,
- - Implement a protocol that fits your clinical practice
- Clinical workflow:
- - Explore ways to optimise your clinical workflow and armamentarium,
- - Devise a protocol to tackle the calcified canal, the blocked canal and the S-shaped canal,
- - Understand ways and techniques that can be implemented for the ‘hot pulp’,
- - Understand modern techniques for restoring the endodontically treated tooth from composite cores to indirect restorations.
LUCA MORANZONI
Luca is a GDC registered specialist endodontist. He has been taking referrals for any dental work relating to root canal treatment for many years and has a wide experience in this area.
Luca has completed the Diploma of Membership of the Faculty of Dental Surgery (MFDS) from the Royal College of Surgeons, Edinburgh. Then subsequently undertook a Masters in Clinical Dentistry in Endodontics at The Eastman Institute (University College London).
Luca combines his clinical activity with teaching endodontics. He is involved in training qualified dentists to upskill in endodontics, and with Jon runs many hands-on continuing professional development training courses a year. He has lectured both nationally and internationally and has also been involved in teaching on the Masters program in Endodontics at Kings College, London.
He has a passion for contemporary, restoratively driven endodontics which involves preserving as much natural tooth as possible during the root canal process to improve longevity. To achieve this all of his treatments are completed under a dental operating microscope and utilising 3D scanning technologies.
