Speakers

Kathryn Mayo

Kathryn qualified from Leeds Dental Institute in 1993. Since then she has worked in NHS, private and specialist practices and also in hospital. 5 years after qualifying she gained a teacher certificate and worked as tutor hygienist at Leeds dental hospital two days a week combined with working in practice. Kathryn currently splits her time working in private practice and a specialist private hospital where she treats patients along with a role tutoring Hygiene /Therapy students in dental implant care. Kathryn along side Jenny has many years of experience of working with dental implant patients. This has led to the development of a special interest in the management of peri-implant disease and periodontitis, as well as their participation in the adolopment working group panels for the S3 peri-implant disease treatment guidelines.

Jenny Walker

Jenny Walker is a dental therapist who qualified from the University of Leeds in 2015, where she was awarded The Hygiene Prize for displaying excellent clinical and management skills within the periodontal element of the programme. Jenny thoroughly enjoys helping her patients achieve optimal oral health by tailoring her advice and treatment to the individual. She has developed a keen interest in the management of both periodontitis and peri-implant diseases which has given her the opportunity to speak Nationally on the subject to fellow dental professionals. Alongside Kathryn Mayo, Jenny has helped devise and deliver courses for Hygienists and Therapists on the management of implant patients, she also lectures to the MSc dental implantology students and the NEBDN dental implant nurses.

Jenny was the Dental Hygienist and Dental Therapist Early Career Group Representative for The British Society of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry for 2019/2020. During her time on the committee, she played an active role in the workshops that took place for the current UK Guidelines for Periodontitis. Alongside her clinical and lecturing role, Jenny has co-written and published several journal articles relating to peri-implant disease and periodontitis.
