Modern restorative dentistry is no longer about choosing between aesthetics and function. Predictable treatment requires us to understand both, while preserving as much healthy tooth structure as possible.

This Study Day presents a practical clinical approach to managing aesthetic and functionally demanding cases in everyday practice. Through clinical cases and step-by-step protocols, we will move from diagnosis and treatment planning through occlusal rehabilitation and management of the structurally compromised tooth to modern aesthetic treatment.

The emphasis throughout the day will be on predictability, minimally invasive dentistry and protocols that can be transferred directly into clinical practice.

Aims

• To provide clinicians with a practical and evidence-informed framework for integrating aesthetics, function, biomechanics and adhesive dentistry into everyday restorative treatment.
• The programme will demonstrate how systematic diagnosis, risk assessment and treatment planning can help clinicians select the least invasive treatment capable of providing a predictable long-term result.

Objectives

• Apply a structured approach to aesthetic, functional and structural diagnosis.
• Recognise functional and structural risk factors before commencing restorative treatment.
• Understand the indications and principles for increasing the vertical dimension of occlusion.
• Incorporate deprogramming and occlusal records into analogue and digital restorative workflows.
• Select appropriately between direct composite, veneers, onlays/overlays and crowns.
• Apply minimally invasive adhesive principles to structurally compromised and endodontically treated teeth.
• Understand how additive and zero-preparation concepts can reduce unnecessary tooth preparation.
• Integrate aesthetic planning with functional rehabilitation.
• Recognise when orthodontic or interdisciplinary treatment may improve the restorative outcome.
• Develop more predictable treatment strategies for complex aesthetic and functional cases.

Maciej Zarow

Maciej Zarow

DDS, PhD, DSc

Dr. Maciej Zarow graduated from Semmelweis University in Budapest in 1995. After a three-year training programme he achieved specialisation in operative dentistry in 1999. From 1998 until 2005 he taught at the Jagiellonian University in Krakow. There, in 2002, he gained his PhD and, in 2005, he achieved specialisation in endodontics. He defended his post-doctoral degree in Medical and Health Sciences in 2024. He is also the co-author of more than 80 papers published in Polish and international journals.

Dr Zarow is the author of many books:

Endo Prosthodontics: Guidelines for Clinical Practice, published by Quintessence Publishing (2013 in Polish, 2014 in Russian, 2016 in English, 2017 in French and Croatian, 2019 in Chinese)

Veneers (2020 in Polish, 2022 in English, 2024 Chinese and Spanish).

From 2012-2017 he was editor-in-chief of the Polish language dental magazine Medycyna Praktyczna - Stomatologia, and since 2020 - Polish Edition of Quintessence.

A President of European Society of Cosmetic Dentistry (ESCD), active member of the Polish Academy of Aesthetic Dentistry, Dr Zarow has lectured extensively in Poland and worldwide. Visiting Professor of Uniwersiti in Chieti (Italy) 2015-2016, lecturer of postgraduate master programs at UIC in Barcelona (2012-2016), Graduate (2018) and Mentor (2021) of Kois Center in Seattle (USA).

He has also run a private dental clinic since 1999 and postgraduate course centre ‘Dentist’, since 2003, in Krakow, Poland. In 2024 he achieved habilitation (Doctor habilitatus) at Medical University in Lodz (Poland) fulfilling a university's set criteria of excellence in research, teaching, and further education.
