Primary dental care for the dental therapist and dental hygienist

Description

The day will cover the principles of evidence-based practice in relation to paediatric dentistry, with a focus on the management of the child dental patient attending in the dental practice for routine dental care. Delegates will gain a broader understanding on how these recommendations and techniques can be used in their own professional practice.

Aims
  • To provide delegates with an evidence-based approach to the management of the child patient in the primary care setting
Objectives
  • Gain a broader understanding of evidence-based practices as applied to paediatric dentistry.
  • Learn how to assess a child dental patient in the primary care setting
  • Develop an understanding of the management of dental disease in paediatric dentistry.
  • Apply this knowledge to clinical scenarios.
Speakers

Mr Leon Bassi

Leon graduated with distinction as both a Dental Therapist and Dental Hygienist from Queen Mary University (Bart’s) and the London Faculty of Medicine and Dentistry, receiving academic and clinical prizes. He has also completed an MSc in Advanced Specialist Health Care at the University of Kent. Since graduation, Leon has worked within Community and Hospital services as well as specialist private practice environments – Leon has provided treatment under inhalation sedation within the hospital setting within a consultant led service. Leon has a post graduate diploma in paediatric dentistry for dental therapists.

Dr Cassandra Lewis

Cassie comes from a scientific background having moved to the UK to study a BSc at Warwick University before her dental training in London. She worked as a Dental Officer for 4 years, providing care under sedation and general anaesthesia and was subsequently awarded the PGDip with merit in Conscious Sedation for Dentistry from King’s College London in 2017. She now works at QMUL as a Clinical Lecturer in Paediatric Dentistry and has completed the Masters in Medical Education at Dundee University.
