By the end of the session participants will be able to:
1. Discuss the prognosis of periodontally-involved teeth rationally with patients
2. Use BPE effectively and rapidly
3. Assess periodontal patients in detail to arrive at the right diagnosis
4. Instruct and motivate patients in self-care
5. Perform non-surgical therapy efficiently
6. Utilise antimicrobials in clinical practice
Ian is a Specialist Periodontist based in Liverpool working in Private Practice. he is the former Undergraduate Teaching Lead in Periodontics and a Senior Clinical Teacher in Periodontics, a role he held for 5 years until leaving that position in 2018. In 2010 he completed his MSc in Periodontology and in 2013 he was admitted to the GDC Specialist List in Periodontics. In 2023 Ian was invited to become a Fellow of the College or General Dentistry.
Ian spends three days a week in private practice in the North West of England where he takes referrals for all aspects of Periodontology and devotes the remaining time to his teaching activities.
He serves on the Council of the British Society of Periodontology and Implant Dentistry as Honorary Treasurer. In 2014 he was also elected to the BSP Faculty. He is the Deputy of the European Federation of Periodontology Communications Committee and is on the editorial board of Dental Update.
Ian teaches for the Faculty of Dental Surgery at the Royal College of Surgeons and runs their short course in Periodontics.
